Student Activities
Student activities include interscholastic athletics, intramural athletics, marching band, student government, social and service student organizations in which membership/participation is voluntary on the part of the student and which meet/practice on school facilities or for which advisors are compensated by the district. Academic eligibility standards for participation in student activities in grades 7 through 12 are established as follows: a student is eligible to participate in school sponsored co-curricular student activities if the student has an average of 70 percent or more and passes at least four (4) subjects. Satisfaction of these requirements shall be determined as follows:
Fall/Full Year Activities (Grades 7-12)
Grades achieved in the fourth quarter marking period of the preceding school year will be used to determine eligibility (summer school grades may be used during the appeal process only). For full-year activities, grades achieved on the second quarter report card will be used to determine continued eligibility. Last day to complete appeals for students in grades 7-12 is the second Friday of September. *For full-year activities – mid-year appeals must be completed one week following the issuance of the second quarter report card.
Winter Activities (Grades 7–12)
Grades achieved in the first quarter marking period will be used to determine eligibility for grades 10-12. The last day to complete winter appeals will be the second Friday in November. For grades 7-9: Winter 1 Appeals - Grades achieved in the first quarter as well as an individual progress report obtained at the time of try-outs will be used for the appeal hearing. The last day to complete the appeal hearing will be the second Friday in November. For grades 7-9: Winter 2 Appeals - Grades achieved in the first quarter as well as an individual progress report obtained at the time of try-outs will be used for the appeal hearing. The last day to complete the appeal hearing will be the second Friday in January.
Spring Activities (Grades 7-12)
Grades achieved in the second quarter marking period will be used to determine eligibility for grades 10-12. The last day to schedule spring appeals will be the second Friday in March. For grades 7-9: Spring Appeals - Grades achieved in the second quarter as well as an individual progress report obtained at the time of try-outs will be used for the appeal hearing. The last day to complete the appeal hearing will be Friday, March 11, 2022.
Appeal Process
A committee consisting of the appropriate director, coordinator, coach or advisor and the principal or his/her designee will review facts, call witnesses and make decisions related to denial of eligibility appeals. The eligibility of any student who fails to meet the listed eligibility requirements, as indicated on a five-week report, will be reviewed by the committee. The student is on academic probation until the end of the five-week marking period. He/she may practice and participate in the student activity until the committee reviews his/her academic standing at the end of the five-week marking period. He/she must meet the following criteria: have a minimum of a 70 percent average, pass at least four subjects and receive positive comments from his/her teachers. Parents must call the principal’s office to set a hearing date. The cut off dates are listed on this page. Appeals shall be submitted in writing on a form(s) established for such purpose by the principal of the high school. Appeals shall be directed to the principal who will convene the review committee.
